More Moors

Over the past two or three weeks I've been steadily beavering through another unit of Berber Spear and Bow for my El Cid Almohavids. and today I managed to finish off the bases. At the same time I also painted up a Imam to give my troops religious guidance and inspiration. As usual, I have stuck with the restricted pallet and concentrated on White and Blue, with a small amount of Gold and Black.

This now takes me up to five units of 21 Berber Spearmen plus 7 Berber Archers, one unit of nine Berber Cavalry, plus four Characters.

The aim was to get these painted in time to field a 3500pt Warhammer Ancient Battles army at Colours in September, and I now have easily enough painted to field a Late Berber list with Spanish Allies (from my Christian Spanish).

All the figures are from the Gripping Beast Moorish range.

It's now getting to be quite a force:

My daughters boyfriend also took a few close ups with his 'posh'camera, they really show up the shonky 'speed painting' I did on these.

More Perry Miniatures Desert Rats

Latest additions
I've painted another ten of the Perry Miniatures Desert Rats as Indian troops from 4th Indian Division. They are painted in the same method as the previous lot that I did. I also did the bases for the Bren Gun and 2" Mortar teams started last time.

The formula used was as follows (all Vallejo Model Colour paints unless noted otherwise):
  • US Tan Earth/Dark Sand (50/50): Helmets without covers, radio equipment, 2" mortar
  • Stone Grey: Some shirts, some socks
  • Khaki: Some shirts, some socks, covered helmets, gaiters, rifle slings
  • Buff: Some shirts, some socks
  • Iraqi Sand: Shorts
  • Saddle Brown: Rifle stocks, helmet straps, bayonet handles, some boots
  • Black: Some boots, rifle fittings, bayonet fittings, soles,
  • Beige Brown: Flesh
  • Brass: Rifle butt plates
  • Gunmetal Grey: Bayonets
Once the figures were base-coated they were given a wash with Vallejo Sepia Wash
I then went on to apply the highlights:
Another caption
  • Dark Sand: Dark Sand, then Dark Sand mixed with Pale Sand
  • Khaki: Khaki, then Khaki mixed with Pale Sand
  • Buff: Buff then Buff mixed with Pale Sand
  • Stone Grey: Stone Grey then Stone Grey mixed with Ivory
  • Iraqi Sand: Iraqi Sand then Iraqi Sand mixed with Pale Sand
  • Saddle Brown: Saddle Brown then Saddle Brown mixed with Dark Sand
  • Black: Black Grey
  • Metallic Black: Black mixed with Gunmetal Grey
  • Beige Brown: Beige Brown then Beige Brown mixed with Medium Flesh-tone
  • Brass: Brass
  • Gunmetal Grey: Gunmetal Grey then Silver
I then texture the bases by super-gluing on small areas of grit and then filling the rest of the base with Vallejo Pumice Gel. Then, paint the bases Yellow Ochre, dry-brush with Yellow Ochre and Pale Sand, then Pale Sand.

The last ten figures from this box are base-coated and just awaiting some highlights. I'll hopefully have them sorted by the weekend.

For Sale - Huge Afrika Korps force for Flames of War

I'm planning a big holiday next year and I have the realisation that I'm not going to be playing Flames of War again any time soon, so I'm going to sell off my forces to contribute towards the cost of the round the world trip.

Top mate Lee has already had a great deal on my Soviets, and now some lucky chap can get hold of my 21st Panzer Division Afrika Korps force.

It's bloody huge, I just did a quick tot up on the Flames of War web-site and it would cost you over £450.00 just to buy the figures.

The force comprises:

Company HQ: Two SMG Command teams, Kfz15 field car, Motorcycle Combination.

PanzerGrenadier /Schuetzen Platoon: Command SMG team, six MG teams, Kfz15 field car, two Kfz70 trucks, captured CMP truck.
PanzerGrenadier /Schuetzen Platoon: Command SMG team, six MG teams, Kfz15 field car, two Kfz70 trucks, captured CMP truck.
PanzerGrenadier /Schuetzen Platoon: Command SMG team, six MG teams, Kfz15 field car, three Kfz70 trucks.
Heavy Weapons Platoon: Command SMG team, four MMG teams, three 8cm Mortar teams, Observer team.
Anti-tank Platoon: Command SMG team, three 5cm PaK38 gun teams, Kfz15 field car, three SdKfz10 halftracks.
Anti-tank Platoon: Command SMG team, three 5cm PaK38 gun teams, Kfz15 field car, three SdKfz10 halftracks.
Heavy Anti-aircraft Platoon: Command SMG team, two 8.8cm FlaK36 gun teams, Kfz15 field car, two SdKfz7 halftracks.
Light Anti-aircraft Platoon: three SdKfz10/5 halftracks.
PanzerKompanie HQ: two PzIIIJ(early)
Panzer Platoon: four PzIIIJ(early)
Panzer Platoon: four PzIIIJ(late)
Panzers: one PzIVF1, one PzIVF2
 Heavy Infantry-gun Platoon: Two Bison
Self-propelled Anti-tank Platoon: Two Diana
Armoured Car Patrol: one SdKfz 223, two SdKfz222
Self-propelled Artillery BatteryL Command SMG team, Observer team, two KubelWagen, Staff Radio Truck, four Lorraine-Schlepper.
eight Motorcycle combinations to mount PanzerGrenadiers as Aufklärungs
four spare KubelWagens to mount PanzerGrenadiers as Aufklärungs or for command teams
two spare command teams, two spare observer teams
two exclusive objectives

Now as mentioned earlier this lot would cost over £450.00 to but from Battlefront and back in the day I used to do a bit of commission painting of Flames of War stuff and I would have charged over £800.00 on top of the figure cost just to paint this for you. But, it's a used force and there is a bit of damage to some of the figures and vehicles, so I'm only asking £800.00 for the lot, including UK postage. For overseas I reckon it would be about £70.00 to ship by UPS/DHL based on previous experience.

Here is a photo of the whole shebang!
